Google to Train Two Million Developers in India

Google Plans to Train 2 Million Developers in India for Android

Google recently launched a program to train 2 million developers in India for its Android platform to create innovative mobile apps.

The training program will be introduced for free across hundreds of public and private universities and training schools through a specially designed, in-person program this year. The program would also be available through the government’s National Skills Development Corporation of India, the company said in a statement.

India is expected to have the largest developer population with 4 million people by 2018, overtaking the U.S.,

“Google plans to make the curriculum accessible to millions for free to help make India a global leader in mobile development. Google will make this program available in about 2,000 different universities, to reach in about 250,000 students in these universities every year.

Apple is also vying for the pool of talented developers from India.

In May 2016 Apple announced plans to open a Design and Development Accelerator in Bengaluru, India, where developers will learn a variety of skills for coding on Apple’s software platforms. Apple’s Bengaluru center will provide specialized access and support to local developers looking to build iOS, Mac, Apple TV and Apple Watch apps, the company said. “With the opening of this new facility in Bengaluru, we’re giving developers access to tools which will help them create innovative apps for customers around the world.”

The Apple plans to make instructors and experts available for weekly briefings on a number of topics. Developers will be able to take advantage of one-on-one app reviews and learn about the Swift programming language, among other assets. The Bengaluru facility is scheduled to be open by early 2017.
Also within few days of revealing plans for an iOS app design and development facility in Bengaluru, Apple announced in May 2016, the opening of an office in Hyderabad tasked with accelerating development of Maps products for iOS, Mac and Apple Watch.

The new development center will create up to 4,000 jobs, with employees set to work on Maps updates and new features for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, the company said.

In a press statement Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO said “Apple is focused on making the best products and services in the world and we are thrilled to open this new office in Hyderabad which will focus on Maps development. The talent here in the local area is incredible and we are looking forward to expanding our relationships and introducing more universities and partners to our platforms as we scale our operations.”

We need to spread this news and prepare our students to take maximum advantage of the opportunities these companies are offering.
